  F.A.Q.

The following frequently asked questions are being provided as a small guide to assist those who would like to own a Dogo Argentino. The fact that for the next nine or ten years that dog will be part of the family should be the first consideration when purchasing a Dogo. Unlike a car, you can not trade your dog with a brand new model.
As a companion of the whole family, the Dogo Argentino will reflect the love and affection that will be shown to him. He will represent a sentimental and not a mere economic investment. On the other hand, the dog and the breeder shall be chosen with utmost care.

HOW DO YOU DEFINE THE PERSONALITY OF THE DOGO ARGENTINO?
The personality of the Dogo Argentino is definitely different from that of any other breed, although some little details may remind us of one in particular. We must take into account that it is a recent breed and in its DNA there are many well-defined genes of other breeds so it is normal that there may be a lot of variety and resemblances.
Generally speaking, the Dogo Argentino is a proud, heedless of danger and a bit stubborn dog but at the same time friendly and loyal to their family. From time to time, depending on the subject, a more or less sensitive and extroverted or a more or less possessive and guarding personality may show up, but at the end it will surely be a confident dog with audacity and strengthens being its best qualities.

TO WHOM WOULD YOU RECOMMEND PURCHASING A DOGO ARGENTINO AND TO WHOM NOT?
The Dogo Argentina is a particular breed with many behavioral qualities and exactly because of its nature it needs a responsible and experienced owner. For this reason, it is strongly not recommended to unexperienced owners without the necessary knowledge and to those who would like to keep it in an apartment or in a small garden since it is a dog that needs plenty of exercise.
It is true that it always manages to surprise for its ductility and dedication to the owner but let's not forget that it is basically a hunter of large, dangerous prey selected to be ready to run and catch.
Companion, guard, defense or other more specific tasks are all tasks that can be performed safely but always following sound psychophysical gymnastics.

DO DOGO PUPPIES GET ALONG WITH OTHER PUPPIES OR ANIMALS?
A well-socialized Dogo Argentine puppy grown up with other puppies does not exhibit any kind of problem. However, the puppy must be slowly and carefully introduced as soon as possible to other animals and get used to the utmost indifference.
On the other hand, an adult dog, not socialized to other animals, will consider an animal running in front of him (either a cat, a horse, a sheep or a hen), just like an appetizing prey which will stimulate its predatory instinct! Dog aggression towards other dogs is affected by socialization, bloodline and sex: males are less tolerant than females. Bitches as well may be intolerant towards other dogs.
The Dogo Argentine is a very intelligent and highly trainable dog, and through patience and perseverance it will be possible to teach it to get along peacefully with every kind of puppy that you would like to introduce.

IS IT BETTER TO CHOSE A FEMALE OR A MALE?
Both males and females have different strengths and flaws that may influence your choice.
Males are certainly more physically imposing; they have a playful and expansive personality and need an owner who makes them understand who is in charge; for sure more than females do.
Females, which physically turn out to be a little smaller and usually are more affectionate, present the discomfort of the heat, and the joy of pregnancy!
